Dr. Anwar Musah
My Biography
Dr Anwar Musah is a spatial epidemiologist and data science specialist whose work focuses on translating advanced analytics into practical insights for public health, disaster resilience, and social development, particularly in the Global South. He serves as a Lecturer in Social and Geographic Data Science and contributes his expertise to Global South Open Health Education (GSOUTH), supporting evidence-based programmes and partnerships that strengthen health systems and decision-making.
Dr Musah specialises in the use of statistical modelling, geospatial analysis, and data science to understand infectious and vector-borne disease dynamics, environmental risk, and social vulnerability. His work enables organisations and partners to identify priority areas, anticipate emerging risks, and design targeted, data-driven interventions that maximise impact and resource efficiency.
A key aspect of his approach is the integration of innovative data collection technologies, including Internet of Things solutions, visual capture tools, and aerial drones. By transforming environmental and physical characteristics into actionable datasets, Dr Musah helps partners gain deeper, real-time insights into complex contexts and improve monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive programme design.
Before joining GSOUTH, Dr Musah held academic and research roles where he explored the application of quantitative and spatial methods to public health challenges. His experience spans the analysis of infectious diseases, environmental exposures, and health surveillance data, reflecting a commitment to translating complex data into actionable public health insights.
At GSOUTH, Dr Musah contributes to strengthening analytical capacity across programmes and research initiatives. He works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to integrate spatial and data-centric approaches into education, research design, and applied analytics, ensuring that outputs are methodologically robust, contextually relevant, and responsive to partner and community needs.
Dr Musah’s work highlights the value of spatial epidemiology and data science in improving public health planning and response, enabling organisations and decision-makers to better anticipate, understand, and address health challenges across diverse environments.
