Ms Faith Hungwe
My Biography
Faith Hungwe is an innovation and partnerships leader at Global South Open Health Education (GSOUTH), where she advances equitable access to quality health education and research across Africa. GSOUTH equips health professionals and institutions with the evidence, skills, and practical insights needed to strengthen health systems and drive meaningful impact across the continent.
Faith is a globally minded scientist and development practitioner with a strong commitment to advancing equity in global health. She holds a Master of Science in Molecular Techniques in Life Sciences, a joint programme through KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institute, and Stockholm University in Sweden, which equipped her with interdisciplinary expertise spanning molecular biology, biotechnology, and clinical applications. She also earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biological Sciences from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, where she built a solid foundation in life sciences and public health.
Her career began at the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership as a Laboratory Scientist, where she conducted research on HPV and cervical cancer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she transitioned into a pivotal Data Manager role, ensuring the accurate, ethical, and anonymised handling of patient data to support national contact tracing efforts.
Faith expanded her experience in Sweden through innovation-driven and academic roles. She contributed to the Maggan Hub Pilot Challenge at KTH and served as a Research Assistant at the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH) at Karolinska Institute. At CESH, she co-led workshops, contributed to toolkit development, and helped advance the Tools for Action platform—an initiative promoting equitable partnerships and knowledge translation for sustainable health solutions.
In her current role at GSOUTH, Faith blends scientific acumen with strategic thinking and cross-cultural insight. She leads efforts to build and strengthen collaborative relationships, co-design innovative initiatives, and ensure that programmatic work aligns with the priorities and needs of partners across sectors. Her focus on inclusive engagement and evidence-based solutions positions her as a catalyst for impact, strengthening health systems and empowering communities throughout the Global South.
