Faith Hungwe is a globally minded scientist and development practitioner with a profound commitment to advancing equity in global health. She holds a Master of Science in Molecular Techniques in Life Sciences, a joint programme by KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Karolinska Institute, and Stockholm University in Sweden. Her postgraduate studies integrated molecular biology, biotechnology, and clinical applications, equipping her with interdisciplinary expertise. Faith also earned a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Biological Sciences from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, where she laid a strong foundation in life sciences and cultivated her early interest in public health and disease prevention.
Faith’s professional journey began at the Botswana Harvard Health Partnership as a Laboratory Scientist, researching HPV and cervical cancer, before transitioning into a pivotal Data Manager role during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this role, she ensured the anonymised, accurate, and ethical management of patient data to support national contact tracing.
In Sweden, Faith expanded her experience in both academic and innovation-driven settings. She contributed to the Maggan Hub Pilot Challenge at KTH and served as a Research Assistant at the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH) at Karolinska Institute. At CESH, she co-led online workshops, supported toolkit development, and advanced the Tools for Action platform to promote equitable partnerships and knowledge translation for sustainable health solutions.
Faith brings to the GSOUTH team a unique blend of scientific acumen, strategic thinking, and cross-cultural insight gained across Southern Africa and the Nordic. Her commitment to inclusivity, collaborative engagement, and bridging science with policy and education positions her as a catalyst for innovative, evidence-based solutions that strengthen health systems and empower communities across the Global South.
